ACADEMICS
At Compass Christian Academy, we teach to the whole child, encouraging curiosity as we develop independence in the classroom. A Biblical worldview forms the foundation for all subjects in the classroom.
KINDERGARTEN
Kindergarten at Compass Christian Academy consists of a full day program. With small, intimate class sizes, your child will receive individualized attention.
The curriculum includes differentiated Math and Reading, Writing, Spelling, Science, Social Studies, Bible, and Physical Education. Kindergartners are encouraged to explore learning through a hands-on approach both in whole and small-group learning. Students will learn about the concept of community, both within and outside of the classroom.
1ST GRADE
First grade at Compass Christian Academy guides children to build a strong foundation in both Math and Language Arts.
First graders will grow individually through the reading process at a developmentally and academically appropriate level. Teachers foster a love for Literature and Writing in fun and exciting ways. In Mathematics, first graders are introduced to fact fluency as new mathematical concepts are taught. They will also build on their mathematical knowledge as they master basic computations, number sense and develop strategies for problem solving.
2ND GRADE
Second Grade at Compass Christian Academy encourages students to continue growing in their independence and teaches students to take responsibility for their learning through inquiry, discussion, and reflection.
Students progress in their reading skills to become fluent readers with strong comprehension skills. Students will also master new math fact fluency as new mathematical concepts are introduced. Students will continue to build on skills involving problem solving and critical thinking. Second graders will do an in-depth study of our Solar System, concluding with a research report.
3RD GRADE
Third Grade at Compass Christian Academy encourages students to continue on their path of independence in the classroom.
Students continue to develop their reading skills through various novel studies across all genres, and will develop narrative and expository writing skills through various formal and informal writing assignments. Students build on their fact fluency through newly introduced mathematical concepts. Students will learn multiplication and division, laying the foundation for later subjects such as geometry and algebra. Third graders will also learn and master cursive writing, earning their Cursive License.
4TH GRADE
Fourth Grade at Compass Christian Academy broadens students’ views of the world with an in-depth study of the history of California both through literature and social studies texts.
Students will continue to develop the fundamentals of writing, while expanding their vocabulary. It is our goal to develop our student’s academic maturity, preparing them for Upper Elementary and Junior High.
5TH GRADE
Fifth Grade at Compass Christian Academy aims to prepare students physically, emotionally, academically, and spiritually for their future in Junior High and High School.
During this pivotal year, students will dive deep into their Bible curriculum to grow in the knowledge of God and learn character traits to help them live out and defend their faith. Students will continue to develop vocabulary skills to enhance their writing. Mathematical procedures and algebraic concepts will work to train their minds to think critically and logically.
